The mechanical processes in PCB manufacturing are the first critical step in building a reliable interconnection between layers. While often taken for granted, Vacuum Lamination and drilling operations play a critical role in determining the ultimate quality of finished, plated holes.
Work stations and tooling in our mechanical area have been expressly selected for their ability to deliver accuracy, repeatability and versatile process control in every phase of drilling and laminating flexible PCBs.
Lamination Press
Vacuum is the key to ensuring the efficient removal of entrapped air before the pressing cycle begins, as well as the volatiles that are generated during the lamination process. Our OEM Vac-Q-Lam press was selected for exceptional pressure uniformity across the platen surface and fully programmable pressure and temperature ramp-up and ramp-down capabilities. With its reliable and precise process controls, the Vac-Q-Lam press allows for perfect lamination of multilayer flexible circuits.
Mechanical Drilling and Routing
Speed, accuracy and automation are the keys to a reliable and efficient drilling process. All our drilling and routing machines, from the workhorse EX200 to our Uniline 2000s, are equipped with air bearing spindles which can turn 80,000 RPM for the routing spindles and 125,000 RPM for the drillers. A sophisticated tool management system measures each tool before use, checks for spindle run-out at operating speed and can detect a broken drill bit at every drill stroke, all without operator intervention. Full integration with our CAM software allows for a fast, accurate and highly efficient process.
Laser Drilling and Routing
As the challenges of the fast changing requirements of flexible circuit boards have evolved during the past few years, With the increasing density and complexity of board designs, precision laser drilling and routing capabilities have become indispensible to the fabrication of flexible PCBs. From microvias to tight routing radii, from fiducial based drilling to extremely critical dimensional features, our ESI 5200 laser driller/router allows Circuits to take on some of the most challenging projects without reservations.
